FAIFE vorgestellt

Weil ich gerade über deren Facebook-Seite gestolpert bin…

FAIFE ist eine Kommission der IFLA, das Kürzel steht für „Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression“. Auf der FAIFE Homepage werden die Ziele beschrieben:

The overall objective of IFLA/FAIFE is to raise awareness of the essential correlation between the library concept and the values of intellectual freedom. To reach this goal IFLA/FAIFE collects and disseminates documentation and aims to stimulate a dialog both within and outside the library world.

Die Geschichte von FAIFE wurde schon kurz in dem Vortrag von Al Kagan angerissen, hier nochmals die Eckdaten

• IFLA Conference, Istanbul, 1995 – resolution on the importance of access to information and freedom of expression: IFLA sets up a committee (CAIFE) to examine this activity
• IFLAConference,Copenhagen,1997–resolutionto establish a Committee on Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression: IFLA establishes FAIFE formally within the IFLA portfolio of activities.
• 1998 – FAIFE office established in Copenhagen
• 2000 – FAIFE designated a “Core Activity” of IFLA
• 2007 – FAIFE integrated into IFLA HQ at The Hague

Die FAIFE Homepage ist ganz informativ, es gibt etwa ein Aufstellung von bibliothekarischen Berufsethiken verschiedener Länder (wurde im vorherigen Post schon erwähnt) oder Materialen zu verschiedenen Workshops (z.B. zum IFLA Internet Manifesto , zum IFLA Manifesto on Transparency, Good Governance and Freedom from Corruption oder zu Access to information on HIV/AIDS through Libraries).

Ansonsten ist die Aktivität dieser Gruppe schwer einzuschätzen: der letzte Jahresbericht ist von 2004 und in der Mailingliste herrscht gähnende Leere. Aber ich denke es lohnt sich jedenfalls die Facebook Aktivitäten zu beobachten, auch bei der IFLA Tagung in Göteburg ist FAIFE vertreten, vielleicht will ja einer der p.t. Leser davon berichten?
